Cassie Espinoza will not have far to travel when she heads to USC. The La Habra High and La Mirada Armada swimmer has committed to the Trojans for 2028 after a high school season that gave distance fans plenty to notice.
She won both the 200 and 500 free at the 2026 CIF Southern Section Division 3 meet, then took fourth in the 500 at the California state meet. Her short course yard bests include 1:50.46 in the 200, 4:51.13 in the 500, 9:54.59 in the 1000, and 16:38.83 in the 1650.
The state meet 500 is an easy headline. When we look across her longer races, though, the 1000 gives this commitment another layer. It was the event that carried the most weight in our retrospective roster comparison.
When we ran her 500, 1000, and 1650 free times through Match, USC sat at #8 on the full list, a Good match. Both longer races reached the Trojans’ Contributor range, with the 1000 leading the result.
For this look back, we entered the published short course yard times on October 20, 2026 against the 2025–26 roster snapshot.
