D1, D2, and D3 recruiting times

How On The Board calculates the roster reference

For each active D1, D2, and D3 program, On The Board calculates the median 2025–26 roster time in each event. Programs with fewer than four swimmers in an event are left out of that event’s national summary. We then take the median across the included programs.

D1 combines the Power 4 and D1 mid-major groups used inside the product. All times on this page are short-course yards. The current source set includes 112,478 roster-time rows across 978 active gendered programs, plus 1,438 conference-standard rows across 64 division-and-conference keys.

Common questions about college swimming recruiting times

Is the roster median the time I need to be recruited?

No. It is the middle swimmer in the event group at a typical program in that division. Coaches recruit for changing event and class needs, so a school may recruit above or below that reference.

Should I compare my best time with D1, D2, or D3 first?

Use the division table for a first pass, then move quickly to individual teams. A swimmer’s time can sit very differently on two rosters in the same division.

Are NCAA championship standards recruiting standards?

No. They are published qualification references for a championship. They can show the national level, but they do not tell you what a particular coach needs.

Which time course does this page use?

The roster table uses short-course yards. Check the course before comparing any time from a long-course or short-course-meters meet.

How often is the data updated?

The page identifies the season and update month at the top. Roster and championship sources should be refreshed on the existing annual data cycle, with the visible date changed when the underlying data changes.
