Connor Minear has announced his verbal commitment to Penn State. The NCAP swimmer put his new school front and center in his own announcement photo, standing beside the campus lion statue with a Penn State flag.

The longer freestyle races tell more of the swimming story. Minear has been 15:36.57 in the 1650 free and 9:20.09 in the 1000 free, both in short course yards. His 4:30.89 in the 500 free adds a third distance to follow as he finishes high school.

We entered all three swims to revisit how Penn State compares with his reported times. The 1650 and 1000 reached ranges represented on the current roster; the 500 provided another data point, though it sat outside those two stronger comparisons.

In a separate Power Four comparison where a time lined up with the middle of a roster’s recorded swims, Penn State was 6th of 15 schools. Minear’s 1650 free led that comparison; the place applies to this group.

For this look back, we entered the published short course yard times on October 25, 2026 against the 2025–26 roster snapshot.
