Julia Lucca announced on October 25 that she has verbally committed to Michigan. The Long Island Aquatic Club swimmer from Smithtown has made the backstroke her calling card, and she is still adding speed before her 2028 arrival in Ann Arbor.

At the 2025 New York state high school meet, Lucca won the 100 back in 54.06 and finished fifth in the 50 free. At NCSA Spring Championships, she took the 100 back down to 53.44. Her 1:57.82 in the 200 back and 50.14 in the 100 free give another look at her range in short course yards.

Those three spring times let us compare her swims with Michigan’s current roster. They show two backstroke events and a freestyle race to follow as she finishes high school.

When we entered those three yard times into Match, Michigan was 7th among the schools returned. Each swim reached a range represented on its current roster, with the 100 back leading the comparison.

For this look back, we entered the published short course yard times on October 25, 2026 against the 2025–26 roster snapshot.
