Katrin Otaegi announced on October 22 that she has verbally committed to swim and study at Cal. She trains with San Ramon Valley Aquatics, and this news follows a summer when she won the 50-meter butterfly at U.S. Junior Nationals.
That Junior Nationals final was close: Otaegi touched in 26.78, a tenth ahead of Peyton McDaniel. It was a long course race. Her short course yard times tell the college-roster side of the story.
SRVA’s 15–16 record board has Otaegi first in the 50 free (22.67), 100 free (49.57), 100 back (53.28), 200 back (1:58.58), and 100 fly (53.18). Free, back, and fly all belong in the conversation about what she may swim at Cal. There is time for those events to develop before she gets to Berkeley.
We used the 50 free, 100 back, and 100 fly yard times for a retrospective Match read. Cal landed #5 on the full list in the Good group. All three swims reached the current roster’s Contributor range.
For this look back, we entered the published short course yard times on October 22, 2026 against the 2025–26 roster snapshot.
