Reina Liu is headed to Stanford for fall 2028, and her 100 back tells you quickly why this commitment has people talking. The TAC Titans swimmer has been 51.00 in short course yards. SwimSwam reported that time would have led Stanford’s roster in the event last season.
There is another backstroke swim right behind it: 1:52.17 in the 200. Liu also brings a 1:44.49 in the 200 free. That free time is a useful detail, because the announcement is about a backstroker who can contribute outside her primary stroke, too.
We put those three published times into Match to look back at the decision. Stanford landed #7 on the full list as a Strong match. Both backstrokes fell in the roster’s Scorer range, which is the clearest connection in this read.
We will get to watch what she does before arriving on campus. For now, the combination of two backstrokes at this level and a fast 200 free makes this a compelling first name in Stanford’s 2028 class. Congratulations to Reina and everyone who helped her get here.
For this look back, we entered the published short course yard times on October 20, 2026 against the 2025–26 roster snapshot.
