Tyler Kominski has verbally committed to Michigan for fall 2028. The Nation’s Capital Swim Club swimmer from Maryland is a distance freestyler, and his best yard times show why that part of his record drew attention.

Kominski went 4:22.33 in the 500 free at NCSA Spring Championships, where he finished third. He has also been 8:59.69 in the 1000 and 15:20.41 in the 1650. Swimming World reports that he won the mile at the Potomac Valley short course championships earlier in the season.

For our retrospective Match read, we used the 500 free, mile, and 400 IM yard times. Michigan appeared at #5 in the full list, in the Good group. The 500 free and 400 IM were both in its current roster’s Contributor range.

There is more than freestyle here. His 3:55.86 in the 400 IM adds another individual event to watch before he arrives in Ann Arbor. Kominski is a junior at Sherwood High School and finished second in the 200 free at Maryland’s 2026 4A3A state meet.

For this look back, we entered the published short course yard times on October 23, 2026 against the 2025–26 roster snapshot.
